Beauty, isn't she?

$1650 isn't such a bad price, either! http://saskatoon.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle…

The only downside is that my landlord and neighbours may have a slight issue with the vehicle is the connotations behind the presence of such a vehicle.

Lol. Cool stuff. But if you're like me, that changes by the hour.

The impressions of said vehicle, or the whole "I found my next vehicle"?

The answer is yes to the second. I posted this only because I didn't find a decently priced ambulance.

Sweet, but kinda morbid. I think you should keep looking for an ambulance. I passed on a intact 1937 LaSalle ambulance in a Philly junkyard in 1990, one of my biggest auto regrets!

I actually like both ambulances and hearses. I almost got one in my teens when I got tired of the Super Beetle (I know, shut up, I was a stupid teenager), but my mom put the proverbial foot down.

I may yet get the hearse, just for shits'n'giggles.

Also - a 1937 LaSalle? Damn, that is one to regret!

That's suspiciously low for a hearse. Have it thoroughly checked out.

Does that come with the 425? Because according to Breaking Bad, you want the 500.

Oh hell yes. I've been bitten by a couple of Kijiji Specials, I am NOT playing that game again.

The previous one I drooled over when still a PFY was a 1970 with a 427, but that engine may not be available for this year. I have to go to work, but I will likely be contacting the owner soon for details.

Pretty much what you said. I find my "next car" all the time.

I have to restrict my "next car" to that which I can reasonably afford, and we don't get neat stuff in Saskatchewan like Vancouver CL, or anywhere else for that matter. Yes, there are Porsches and Audis (no Saudis in'em though) but they are:

1- far beyond my purchase price limit

2- Way outta my league as far as repair costs. No such thing as a cheap German/British/Italian car

The 1977 above almost certainly has the 425 big block v8 in it. however, cadillac did funny things for fleet vehicles (including hearses) so it's possible there is an Olds V8 in it. Google is your friend.

DeVilles - even limos/hearses - of this vintage did not have a 427 option; you probably mean 472. The 500/472/425 are all the same block; the 500 is the most desirable but all 3 are bomb-proof. Displacement started declining in the mid-late '70s as a result of fuel economy standards.

I owned a '79 with the 425. It was sill a hoot to drive, so don't be fanboy'd into thinking you must own a 500 or 427. If I were you, i'd skip the hearse and look at coupes or sedans. this was seriously the most comfortable car I've ever owned - and "the one" that got away.

Wow, gotta love Jalopnik for the "otaku" level of minutiae!

This is seriously good to know, by the way - I was not being sarcastic at all!

While I do like the ride on regular sedamns and coupes, I've just got a 'thing' for hearses and ambulances. If the engine/drivetrain is in decent shape and the interior isn't bad (I've seen some seriously rat-bagged limo/hearse interiors) I may still wheel'n'deal with the owner.

It'll make for a more-than-decent hauler/tripper/camping companion, and be a much easier and cheaper car to work on than my current Voyager. Yes, the fuel consumption will be higher, but I largely rock highway miles, so that will be somewhat mitigated.

Again, thanks for the info!

Fwiw the best I ever got was 12mpg hwy, babying it.

However people always complemented the car. Like every time I drove it

Yeah, I figured - my Suburban had a 454 punched out to 468, and I did $40 in gas every two days.

I miss the sounds she made (that bitch was feral!) but she was awfully hard on my wallet. Not unlike my ex-girlfriends.

Hey-yooooooooo!
